CODE OF CONDUCT HIFI FESTIVAL

The following code of conduct applies to everyone participating in HiFi festival (including workshop participants, teachers, performers, volunteers and the production team). All are required to uphold these behavioural standards at all times to create a safer space and welcoming environment for the benefit of all.

The code of conduct aims to ensure that everyones boundaries, needs and wishes are respected at the HiFi festival. We require commitment to the principles from all participants in our activities.

We respect everyone - Verbal or physical harassment of any kind is not tolerated
Respect other people’s personal, physical and mental state. You cannot know another person’s boundaries without first asking about them. So ask before you, for example, touch another person. If someone tells you that your behaviour makes them feel uncomfortable, listen and change that behaviour. You are responsible for your own actions and behaviour. Be aware that your actions can have an impact on other’s despite your good intentions.

Any kind of misconduct based on gender, race, religion, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression is not tolerated, nor should any one person be the subject of ridicule.

Communicate your boundaries and respect the boundaries of others (on and off stage)
People have different boundaries and it is important to listen and respect when someone expresses their boundaries. Working with other people - and especially with strangers - requires listening, empathy and respect. Similarly, we will want to be respectful when it comes to physical touch and subject matter. Workshop facilitators have the responsibility to lead a discussion on physical touch and agreed upon guidelines will be respected by all participants.

If you become uncomfortable in a scene or exercises, you have the right to end the scene, no explanations necessary.

If something makes you uncomfortable, tell others
Talk to the workshop leader / staff / code of conduct contact person or send it to us in writing. All feedback is welcome. We will take the necessary steps and measures to deal with the issue.

We promote non-discrimination through our actions
Racism (discrimination based on ethnicity, skin color, language, nationality, culture or religion) is not accepted here. Ableism (i.e. discrimination based on disability or functional ability) is not accepted here. Transphobia or homophobia (ie discrimination against gender or sexuality) is not accepted here. We do not make assumptions about anyone’s sexuality, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, values, socio-economic background, ability or health. We respect pronouns and names. Be aware of your own privileges. Together, we actively promote equality, anti-racism and non-discrimination.

We speak about everyone’s body with respect
We talk about our own and other people’s bodies respectfully. We do not accept body shaming or discrimination. We do not comment on other people’s bodies.

When mistakes happen, we apologize and learn from them
We all make mistakes sometimes. This is why it is good to discuss them, learn form them and, if necessary, apologize. Together, we build trust that everyone is coming from a good place.
